On TNA’s Identity Crisis

In a recent interview with Inside the Ropes, Vince Russo — yes, that Vince Russo — laid out his reasoning as to why TNA continues to struggle with creating stars in the same way other companies do:
Because I think there’s a lack of patience. Ratings don’t happen overnight. Ratings happen when you commit to something and you stay the course. That’s why the Attitude Era worked. Vince stuck with it, we didn’t let the rating affect us on a weekly basis, we rode it out. Unfortunately, that was never the mindset at TNA. There was a lot of emphasis on the rating week to week, then creative is being directed to jump all over the place. It might take a year, but if you stay with it and believe in it, it’s going to work. It’s not going to work if every six weeks or two months you’re changing course and going in a different direction. I feel TNA have been guilty of that for a very long time.
I don’t think highly of Russo as a wrestling booker, but he does have a point here.

I have to admit, I didn’t think WWE would suspend Jericho as a mea culpa to Brazil for his stunt. I hope he doesn’t spend too long on the sidelines as a result of this — and I also hope he plays this stunt up to the hilt when his suspension ends.
At the very least, he should wear a yellow-and-green sparkle-jacket when he returns to action.

While Over The Limit had little going for it on paper — aside from one high-profile title match between two well-regarded wrestlers — WWE did its best with what it had to offer and put on a serviceable pay-per-view. Per my usual tradition, here are Five Good Things about WWE Over The Limit 2012:

On Bryan vs. Punk at Over The Limit

I plan on penning the usual “Five Good Things” column for Over The Limit tomorrow, but I also want to shine a spotlight on a match that will get plenty of time there for the next few weeks: CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship.

On Changes to Raw and Impact
May 17th, 2012 ~ Permalink ~ 3 notes
By now, the news has spread throughout the wrestling world: Raw will expand to three hours as of July 23, and Impact will go live as of May 31 (and start an hour earlier to boot).
Honestly, I have no strong opinion about either of these moves.
